Saakha & Universal Automo-biles, a subsidiary of the Saakha Group and sole authorised distributor of Geely four-wheelers for Nepal, is planning to roll out Geely LC Cross, a crossover from the Chinese manufacturer, by mid-December. The company will introduce the basic and mid-range variants in the first phase. “There is cutthroat competition in the domestic automobile market. Through this car, we aim to strengthen our position in the entry level segment,” said Prabal Saakha, managing director at Saakha Group. “The Geely LC Cross is slightly bigger than a hatchback, but its looks resemble an SUV. We are sure that the car will appeal to first time buyers.” According to Saakha, the company is currently concentrating on economic cars as the domestic automobile sector is witnessing a severe slump, which has adversely affected the market of expensive cars. Powered by a 1.3L L4 16V DOHC engine, the Geely LC Cross delivers a maximum power of 63 KW at 5000 RPM and a maximum torque of 110 Nm at 5200 RPM. Equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission system, the car can reach a top speed of 165 km per hour. Also, the MacPherson front and multi-link rear suspensions and 180-mm ground clearance make it a suitable for Nepali road conditions.
