![]() With successful strategic transform in 2007, Geely Group’s recent acquisition of Australia-based DSI and launch of three sub-brands have set a good example for enterprises in coping with the global financial crisis, striking forwards towards the grand strategic objectives. Shanghai Auto Show, inaugurated in April 2009, will witness a brand-new Geely other than that at Beijing Auto Show 2008. The outstanding performance, themed“unstinting devotion enables continuous transcendence”, at Beijing Auto Show has presented a unique image of Geely to the world. Today, Geely will interpret the theme “breakthroughs & innovation make new Geely” with the brand-new concepts and products.
To adapt to the increasing product series, Geely creates three brand-new sub-brands under the parent brand, GLEAGLE, EMGRAND and SHANGHAI ENGLON. Enjoying equal importance in the company’s strategic development, these sub-brands showcase different characteristics and styles with utterly new logo.
The three sub-brands will present their debut at Shanghai Auto Show with a family of “8+8+3” models. GLEAGLE delivers the concept of fashion, enthusiasm and dream; EMGRAND is the symbol of luxury, solidity and power while SHANGHAI ENGLON interprets the classical, Englon and noble product concepts, which includes the luxury sedan model Geely Excellence (GE).
To support the brand-new sub-brand series, Geely formulated the internationalized product nomenclature system and will officially disclose the system at Shanghai Auto Show. The system employs two letters and three figures in naming a product. The first letter stands for the brand: G referring to Gleagle; E referring to Emgrand and S referring to Shanghai Englon. The second letter stands for the vehicle type: C referring to sedan; X referring to SUV; V referring to MPV; T referring to light truck; other derived vehicle types are marked by suffixes, e.g. -RV referring to hatch-back. The first figure stands for the vehicle grade, ranging from 3, 5, 6, 7 and 8 to 9. The larger the figure is, the bigger of the vehicle size. The second and the third figure stand for displacement or its corresponding calculated driving power. For example, EC718 refers to Grade B sedan under the brand of Emgrand, with a 1.8 L engine.
It is reported that the naming system is designed with reference to experiences of world-famous brands. The simple combination of two letters and three figures covers all models of Geely’s three sub-brands. With this system, the following products of Geely will have a proper name with well-defined family tree, offering effective support for various designs in future and an important base for Geely’s sub-brand image and sustainable development.
Geely’s successful exhibition at Beijing Auto Show in 2008 was an inflection point of the carmaker at the domestic auto shows. Geely will exhibit 22 complete vehicles, 9 engines and 3 transmissions at Shanghai Auto Show 2009, surpassing that at Beijing Auto Show in terms of lineup and quality. Most of the concept designs showed at Beijing Auto Show will be exhibited as the production cars this time. Except one concept car, the rest of the complete vehicles are models under the three sub-brands. Of that, 9 models will be released to the markets within one year and a half, 6 models are under developing process, expected to be released to the market within two years and a half. Two models are to be developed as the strategic reserve of the carmaker. The exhibits also include one model of high-performance electric car, a F1 racing car and a mini environment-friendly energy-efficient concept car. In addition, Geely will exhibit Geely Total Safety Management (GTSM) system and the advanced hybrid power system Electronic Equation Balance System (EEBS) during the exhibition. |
